Madam, - Might it be possible for a representative group of politicians, journalists, and members of the various governmental and non-governmental agencies involved in the asylum process to travel to Nigeria and reach a definitive view of the situation there before there are any further deportations?
Mary Raftery's graphic column on female genital mutilation (Opinion, March 31st) by itself demands that there be greater consideration of cases than the arbitrary and opaque processes of the appeals tribunal.
Surely no one has anything to fear from the truth? - Yours, etc.,
IAN POULTON, Killiney, Co Dublin.
