Sir, - I refer to recent comments from the SIPTU general president, Mr Des Geraghty. Speaking on behalf of a large number of Ryanair employees, we were disgusted to read Mr Geraghty's comments that certain people should choose not to travel with Ryanair as this would be showing "scant regard for workers' rights".
We would have thought that in the current economic downturn the president of an organisation which claims to champion the best interests of the Irish worker would not be attempting to persuade business away from it, thus putting Irish jobs at risk.
If people choose to travel with an Irish company that has helped bring considerable business to this island, should be allowed to do so without having pressure put on them by this man. - Yours, etc.,
Jonathan Heavey, Grattan Lodge, Donaghmede, Dublin 13.
