Madam, - Much of the recent debate on the date of the forthcoming election has focused on students and others around the country who will not be in their constituencies to vote on a Thursday. But spare a thought for the vast numbers of Irish citizens and expatriates who will out of the country on polling day. Irish citizens living abroad should be able to register with their local consulates and be allowed to vote there, as is the case in French elections.
Before the Taoiseach again hails the virtues of Martin Cullen's €62 million e-voting machines, he should note they would be as useful to expatriates as as his peann luaidhe, as you would still need to be sa bhaile to use them. - Yours, etc,
JARLATH MOLLOY, Cornwall Gardens, South Kensington, London, SW7.
