Sir, – Many divorce and separation cases have been postponed for almost 10 months now. Due, we are informed, to Level Five restrictions.
Family law cases of their nature are held in camera, meaning the attendance of the general public is prohibited. Participation is kept to a minimum, usually only the couple themselves. I am personally aware that in this country there are multiple suitable and safe venues for these cases to be heard and resolved.
The reality of the decision to postpone is brought home in the daily lives of many of the children of this State. Some children are not only being parented but home-schooled in dysfunctional, chaotic and often oppressive surroundings.
We so profess to care about our children that we pass a constitutional amendment vindicating some of their rights. Is it not time for someone with authority to start walking the walk? – Yours, etc,
DANIEL J O’GORMAN,
