Sir, - Around the time of the August bank holiday weekend the Department of Education announced there would be a delay in its grant aid to the new docklands campus for the National College of Ireland. This is a shame.
I am one of 21 docklands parents who have already benefited from a parents-in-education course sponsored by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority and run by the NCI in a room provided by the North Wall Women's Centre in Sheriff Street.
The attitude of the NCI towards us docklands people is in sharp contrast with what we experience from the Department of Education. The NCI created a wonderful atmosphere and gave us the excitement and challenge of learning.
When we have an NCI docklands campus it will give our kids the chances we didn't get. Education is the key to employment. We need it to equip ourselves for all the new opportunities that are coming with the docklands development. The docklands people have been shut out for years. Now is the time to set the balance right. Don't delay the docklands campus. - Yours etc.,
