Sir, - I refer to an article in your edition of March 15th. As reported in the text of the article, I said that a survey conducted at Glasgow and reported in the British Journal of Medical Psychology was welcome since it showed that the archbishop was not alone in considering the issues he had raised in his address at Maynooth.
I pointed out that I had not yet had the opportunity to read the survey. I never claimed that the Glasgow survey backed (or, for that matter did not back) the archbishop's views, as your headline suggested. I am concerned that this headline ("Spokesman says archbishop's view backed by study") may have misled people. It does not reflect the interaction I had with The Irish Times. - Yours, etc.,
John Dardis, SJ, Communications Director, Archdiocese of Dublin, Archbishop's House, Dublin 9.
