Madam, - I was most interested to read Ann McElhinney's report on the third World Dracula Congress (May 19th). Prof Elizabeth Miller has been a long-standing overseas member of our Bram Stoker Society as well as being the president of the Canadian chapter of the Transylvanian Society of Dracula, whose head office in Bucharest organises these annual events.
However, I should like to correct one error. Your reporter quoted Prof Miller as saying that Bram Stoker's Dracula was published five years before the trial of Oscar Wilde began. In fact his trial occurred in 1895 and the novel was published in 1897.
Incidentally, our Bram Stoker Annual International Summer School will be held in Clontarf, Dublin, from July 17 to 20th. Any interested reader should contact the undersigned for further details. - Yours, etc.,
DAVID LASS,
Honorary Secretary,
