Sir, - The melodrama that took place recently in the Dail, with Liz O'Donnell making herself out to be a heroine by being expelled, the name calling, the fudging of questions, and the general melee are nothing short of criminal, in a chamber supposed to encapsulate everything that is good and wholesome about democracy in the premier debating and legislative assembly in this State.

The lack of will to respond to pressing social needs, the total non existence of vision in bringing this country forward and initiating measures to enhance its social wellbeing, shows in the unprofessionalism of all our politicians, save when it comes to voting of a substantial pay rise for themselves.

If the Dail sittings were boardroom meetings of a large private company - apart from the fact that there would be too many members - their outdated standing orders and procedures, coupled with their non cooperative methods, the standard and contents of the debates and lack of energy in tackling the real issues, then that company would never have started trading.

What does that say about us who voted for them in the first place, and them for not having the ability to take up the challenges in a democratic State? - Yours, etc.,
