Sir, - Following the overturning, on the strength of a one-word legal technicality (The Irish Times, December 20th), of a drink-driving conviction involving the owner of a South Dublin hostelry of caprine connotation, should the well known saying about the legal profession be amended to proclaim (forthwith) that: "The law is a goat"?
This suggested redefinition would at least allow all self-respecting asses to dissociate themselves from the unfortunate message which the Circuit Court ruling sends out at the height of the current national campaign against drink-driving. - Yours, etc.,
John Murphy, Mount Anville Road, Dublin 14.
