Madam, - Alan Dukes (September 21st) wastes his considerable talent by arguing against Dr Fenton Howell over smoking in cars.
Common sense indicates that a driver who is smoking is taking one hand off the steering wheel - and perhaps both hands when he lights a cigarette. I am not aware of any research which indicates that smoking in the car improves a driver's concentration. - Yours, etc.,
