Sir, - Every day as I drive around Dublin, I see people using their mobile phones while driving. It is not unusual to observe somebody negotiating a difficult corner, phone in one hand, severe strain on the other hand.
At no stage during a driving test are you asked to perform this difficult and dangerous manouevre.
At the moment, and rightly so, a lot of emphasis is being laid on keeping horses off the roads in and around Dublin. Why is it that no one is drawing attention to the fact that driving with one hand, and using the phone with the other hand, is breaking the law and putting life in danger?
I suggest the reason is that journalists and politicians cannot live with their mobile phones turned off. - Yours, etc.,
Marley Rise, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.
