Madam, – Ireland’s capital now has the least expensive hotels in Western Europe (Home News, October 20th).
The country has a huge stock of hotel rooms and restaurants to fill, so the travel tax should be dropped immediately. Newspapers abroad should be bombarded with news stories and advertising (paid for by Ryanair, Aer Lingus and the hotels) stressing the new “low cost” destination that is Ireland . The Government would thereby greatly boost the value of its “golden share” in Aer Lingus which could later be sold to Michael O Really (sic) or another company to reduce the deficit and it would realise a far higher figure because of increased traffic. – Yours, etc,
