Madam, - Is it really necessary for telephone directories to be dropped outside the door of almost every house in the State, particularly at a time of year when many people are away? Surely not all of us require a new paper phone book every single year? People who wish to have one could simply collect a directory at their nearest post office on production of a phone bill.
At a time when we are seeking to reduce Ireland's waste (stated by the OECD to be the highest per capita in the developed world) this automatic distribution constitutes a great waste of resources, not to mention a security risk for people who may be away during this inappropriately timed inundation. - Yours, etc,
ANTHONY BRADY, Griffith Court, Dublin 3.
