Sir, - In reply to Mr Daithi Doolan (October 29th) I wish to point out that the area he refers to is very well served by at least six high-technology acute hospitals within a radius of five miles - the Mater, St Vincent's, Beaumont, Temple Street, St James and Crumlin Children's Hospital.
By contrast, people in the west of Ireland have to travel up to 100 miles to an acute hospital. For example, an expectant mother in Loop Head, Co Clare, has to travel up to 80 miles for obstetric services. This is equivalent to somebody in Mr Doolan's area having to travel to Roscrea, Co Tipperary, to have a baby. - Your, etc., Gerry Buckley,
