Madam, - It is great news that Dublin city councillors will be urged to promote parking near Luas and rail stations and bus routes ( The Irish Times, July 3rd). Let's hope they will put the city's good before the votes of grumpy residents who can walk to public transport, but want to bar others from driving there.
Meanwhile, Dun Laoghaire Council is still thwarting park and ride proposals with religious zeal. Minister for the Environment John Gormley needs to get all local authorities to help, not obstruct, drivers who want to switch to public transport, cut traffic and thereby reduce their carbon emissions. - Yours, etc,
MICHAEL BOYLE, Butterfield Drive, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
