Madam, - I agree with Alan Breen's concerns (July 23rd) about myths surrounding the Dublin Port Tunnel.
Of course, the original and greatest myth in relation to this project was created by Mr Breen's engineering colleagues in Dublin City Council when they told local residents at the intensive and exhaustive planning and public inquiry stage that absolutely no houses would be damaged by the tunnelling works.
Up to June 15th this year, when DCC issued its last report, a total of 205 houses had sustained damage as a result of the tunnelling. This ranges from hairline cracks to major structural damage where families have had to move out of their homes to facilitate repairs. In some cases parts of houses had to be demolished and rebuilt.
This is one myth they can't bury. - Yours, etc,
