Sir, - I'm sure the road haulage business has its reasons for wanting direct access through the heart of the city to Dublin's docks. Hence the need for the proposed port access tunnel.
Am I being naive in asking if any serious consideration has been given to the existing off road access routes to Dublin port? These are the railway lines from the port which intersect with the M50 motorway near Blanchardstown and Cherry Orchard.
There is ample land near Cherry Orchard which could be used for the construction of a major freight depot. Container freight could be transported to and from the port of rail wagons. Collection and distribution by road transport via the M50 access routes would eliminate the need for heavy vehicles having to traverse the city's congested streets. - Yours, etc.,
Upper Glenageary Road,
Dun Laoghaire.
