Sir, - With utter hypocrisy and cynical irony, Dublin Corporation promoted its public education campaign on Dublin's waste in the same week as it began dumping its rubbish in Kill, Co Kildare. For added measure, dump operations began in clear, premeditated - and undenied - breach of Condition 25 of its planning permission.
The education campaign recognises that "how we deal with that waste [Dublin's 2 million tonnes a year] has a direct impact on our environment" and "what we throw in the bin, onto the tip, or down the drain affects our environment". But it fails to point out that it is our environment here in Kill which is being affected by Dublin's rubbish.
The Dublin authorities have whinged for 10 years about their waste crisis, but have shown themselves incapable of any form of waste management. Their obvious intention to continue dumping is in conflict with their pious sentiments on environmental damage. It's not the public who need education on waste management, but the local authorities themselves. - Yours, etc.,
