A chara, - The proposed £500 million Eastern Bypass is back on the agenda again thanks to our three wise men, councillors Ryan, Doyle and Lacey.
Communities throughout the south inner city have been well lectured by a powerful pro-roads lobby that the long accepted solution to our traffic gridlock is more new roads and more new bridges.
This was the case used by the defenders of that original Eastern Bypass, designed at that stage to plough through Ringsend village and across Ringsend Park and Sandymount Strand to help solve our traffic gridlock before we had a gridlock problem.
If these same councillors were serious about an integrated transport policy, why have they supported successive governments which have actually reduced their funding to Dublin Bus?
This subsidy, now at the all-time low of 2 per cent of the annual budget of Dublin Bus, has meant a reduced bus service throughout the city, including a non-existent no. 3 bus-route in their own south inner city constituency. - Is mise, Tom Crilly,
