Sir,- I can assure Orla Farrell (September 28th), that as a clinician I am not entirely ignorant of the suffering of those afflicted by "eating distress". I will not be teaching my daughter and son that "thin is in".
However, while anorexia and bulimia possibly affect a few thousand Irish men and women, obesity certainly affects many tens of thousands. My point stands: while overeating directly or indirectly kills countless Irish people each year, anorexia/bulimia remains of more concern to the chattering classes. - Yours, etc.
