Sir, - Every couple of weeks a plump envelope flops onto my mat with a letter offering to buy my fairly worthless Eircom/Vodaphone shares for about a quarter the price I paid for them. I gather I'm not the only one to get such offers.
After the taxpayer spent vast sums upgrading the State telecoms company it was plucked like an over-ripe gooseberry and in the process small shareholders were fleeced.
I cannot help comparing the constantly falling value of these shares, and the kind offers to buy them, with the unseemly scramble by a few multi-millionaires to get their hands on the remnants of the phone company so they can become billionaires.
I'm beginning to see why so many people demonstrated at Genoa. - Yours, etc.,
