Enda's choice of Irish art

Madam,­ – While I am happy that the Taoiseach is surrounded by Irish art in his private office (Michael Parsons, Home News, June 13th), I do not believe the three works borrowed from the National Gallery – ­two by Paul Henry and one by William Ashford – should be in Government Buildings. As part of the gallery’s collection, these paintings ought to be readily accessible to their owners, ie, the people of Ireland.

The late Garret FitzGerald, when taoiseach, was known to browse occasionally in Fred Hanna’s bookshop. Surely Enda Kenny could pop around to the gallery from time to time, if he is particularly enamoured of the three pictures in question? After all, it’s not exactly far. – Yours, etc,
