Madam, - I am alarmed at the consumer groups and politicians calling for the promised increases in electricity prices to be reduced or cancelled.
We all need to realise that energy prices must be increased by several hundred per cent in the coming years if we are to have any chance of addressing the threat of climate change. While oil remains relatively cheap, alternative fuels will remain uneconomic and we will continue to pump carbon into the atmosphere.
Calls for price reductions are irresponsible and ultimately a very serious threat to the wellbeing of our grandchildren. - Yours, etc,
