Sir - On Wednesday night BBC1 showed a documentary about English stag parties in Dublin, particularly in Temple Bar. I haven't seen an Irish documentary on this problem. Is it possible that, for commercial reasons, the problem is not being addressed in Ireland?
We have enough of our own home-grown thugs and louts without enticing in thugs and louts from England. One of the Englishmen on the documentary said the reason English stag parties come to Dublin is that their behaviour wouldn't be tolerated in England. A few weeks ago a Garda sustained a fractured skull during an encounter with a stag party from England. This is a problem that can be solved before it gets out of hand altogether. The peaceful, friendly atmosphere of the pub scene in Dublin must not be surrendered to crass commercialism. - Yours, etc.,
