Madam, - Full of Christmas spirit I entered the "Writers' Bar" in the Gresham Hotel, O'Connell Street, Dublin, for a drink with a friend. We asked the waiter for two Baileys Cappuccinos. They were served and we were asked to pay €9.10 each. "For what?" we exclaimed horrified.
The police were called and we were told that since we ordered the drinks we must pay for them. Rather than spend Christmas in jail we paid up.
Inspired, however, by the name "The Writers' Bar" I wrote to the Director of Consumer Affairs at 4 Harcourt Road, Dublin 2. I now write to you, Madam, so that people may know of that excellent organisation which will investigate allegations of overpricing by any business anywhere in the country. Let's not just complain - let's do something. - Yours, etc.,
BARRY ROCHE, Lower Exchange Street, Dublin 8.
