Madam, - M.A. Mac Namara (June 14th) objects to Vincent Browne's implicit reference to healthcare users as being pig-like. Sir Winston Churchill claimed dogs were inferior to us as they look up to us, cats are superior to us as they look down at us, but pigs, being our equals , look at us straight in the eye.
When we describe behaviour as "pig-like" we generally refer to activities that no respectable pig would ever indulge in: drunken groping, loud-mouthed obscenities, mindless violence, etc. On behalf of our porcine friends I protest at this prejudiced stereotyping of one of society's last voiceless minority groups. - Yours, etc.,
COLUMBA NEE,
Killymard,
