Sir, - It is very sad that a Norwegian owned fish farming company has, with the aid of Irish taxpayers' money, commenced building a fish factory at Rinmore Point, Fanad, Co Donegal. Apparently it does not matter that Rinmore is designated as a Special Area of Conservation. The glossy brochure issued by the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht blithely assures us that "the EU and the Irish Government have adopted a policy of not grant-aiding developments that damage the environment." The Norwegian fish farming company involved has been handsomely grant-aided and its activities in the once beautiful Mulroy Bay testify that it has not enhanced the environment there.Everyone knows that our present Government is in some disarray, but a foreign (non-EU) owned, grant-aided fish factory in the middle of a special area of conservation is quite incredible. Maybe the Greens, PDs and independents will insist on being told exactly what is going on, which would be quicker and cheaper than another tribunal. - Yours, etc., W. Lionel McKee,
Malahide,Co Dublin.
