Madam, – Unfortunately the statement in your newspaper (World News, September 1st) that “A Venezuelan farmer has died after months on hunger strike in protest at the seizure of his farm in 2003 during a government land reform drive” under the headline “Hunger striker dies in Venezuela” is totally inaccurate.

In 1999, Mr Brito received from the Venezuelan government ownership rights to 290.2 productive hectares in southern Venezuela. Also, Mr Brito was never subject to any form of land expropriation or land recovery measure. – Yours, etc,
