Sir, - I have no doubt that many of your readers were as horrified as I was to see the photograph of the bedroom where visiting dignitaries are going to sleep when visiting Ireland. Heaven help us! It looks quite ghastly, and totally naff.
Imagine someone looking for ward to visiting our country being confronted with doors sheeted in gold leaf, and furniture suggestive of the King Farouk style of architecture much favoured by the interior decorators of some of our newer Dublin hotels.
All in all, I thought Robert O'Byrne's views quite restrained. - Yours, etc.,
