A chara, - I agree with Robert O'Byrne's contention (The Irish Times, July 12th) that there "exists an enormous chasm between fashion and the way in which people usually dress". I also agree that most of Dublin's young population "seem recruited to be three dimensional advertisements" for designer companies.
If Robert wishes to find those Irish ladies who, while not being "radical dressers" do have "impeccable taste" (as in Nuala Haughey's reported description of the average female Parisian (Irishwoman's Diary, July 12th), I suggest that he look more closely at our 30-something population, among whose numbers he will find those rare but very noticeable few who, while dressing for themselves, display a co-ordinated, alluring and colourful dress sense.
All it seems to require, in my opinion, is a little extra maturity and a great deal of panache. But alas, as Mr O'Byrne so correctly observes, few Irish women possess such sophisticated, yet simple and natural attributes. - Is mise, Richie Cotter,
