Madam, - Andrew Wallace (October 16th) highlights an issue for many families who are not members of the majority religious denomination in this State. This is particularly so for those who live outside Dublin, Cork, Donegal and Wicklow, as there are in fact non-fee-paying schools in these areas which are not run under the ethos of the Roman Catholic Church.

Ashton School in Blackrock, Cork, is under the patronage of the Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross; Newpark School in Blackrock, Co Dublin, Mount Temple School on the Malahide Road in Dublin, and East Glendalough School in Wicklow are under the patronage of the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin; and Royal and Prior School in Raphoe, Co Donegal is under the patronage of the Donegal Protestant Board of Education.

I acknowledge that the aforementioned schools are not of much benefit to those who live outside their hinterlands; I merely wished to set the record straight that there are second-level, non-fee-paying schools which are not run under the ethos of the majority denomination. - Yours, etc,

GILLIAN V WHARTON, The Rectory, Cross Avenue, Booterstown, Co Dublin.
