Sir, - A couple of months ago I decided I would like to join Young Fine Gael. I visited its website and sent two e-mails seeking further information to no avail. Following this, I called Fine Gael headquarters and asked to speak to the youth officer.
Although I did not get through to her directly, I left my contact details, but again without response.
On the fourth time of calling, I managed to reach the youth officer, who was in Tipperary for the recent by-election. I was told that the youth officer in my own constituency would contact me and an information pack would be sent to my address, which I provided.
I was not contacted and the information pack was not received.
The evident difficulty attached to getting involved underlines the cliquish image from which politics suffers. Is it that Young Fine Gael simply don't want my membership? - Yours, etc.,
