Sir, – I’m astonished that Senator John Kelly said the following in the Seanad: “Any law-abiding citizen would be willing to be fingerprinted in relation to claiming social welfare. If they’re law-abiding there’s no issue with it” (Seanad Report, June 24th). Many “lawful” citizens would be far from willing to be fingerprinted and rightly so. Senator Kelly obviously believes that the Government should create a law that compromises civil liberties. – Yours, etc,
