Madam, - Our health services are in a terminal condition. We cannot accommodate our young offenders and those in need of shelter. We have the worst road system in Europe, an almost non-existent rail network, hugely inadequate public road transport, a traffic-choked capital city, a public housing problem of enormous proportions and school buildings that are health and safety hazards. In addition, we have recently seen cuts in the financing of those who care for our elderly and incapacitated.
Those whom we have elected to govern us now propose to spend many millions of euro on a sports stadium in our capital city, with further cash to go to a football centre in Abbotstown in the near future.
Are our legislators fools or knaves, or simply barking mad? Answers on a ballot paper in the next general election, please. - Yours, etc.,
DAVID GRANT, Mount Pleasant, Waterford.
