Madam, – Brian Lenihan re-iterates his position that an increase in the 42 per cent tax band for those earning over €100,000 would lead the wealthy to flee the jurisdiction (Dáil report, October 28th). Would Mr Lenihan please let us know what Shangri-La will open its gates to the huddled masses of politicians, barristers, HSE managers, senior civil servants and trade union officials fleeing the oppression of paying 48 per cent income tax on a portion of their earnings?
At the current rate, it will be quite some time before I’ll meet the criteria for entry to those exalted shores, but it’s never too soon to start sussing out the property market and learning the language in anticipation. – Yours, etc,
