Sir, - Even as David Trimble and Gerry Adams emerged from their historic talks last week, there was Mr Paisley, whinging. So predictable. I thought of Winston Churchill's words, "Consistency is the virtue of small minds." For the reverend doctor nothing has changed, nor can there be change. He is lodged in the past, harking back to the days of unionist ascendancy when minorities had no rights. His party spokesmen were those who, even as the smoke hung heavy in the air over Omagh, could think only of political pointscoring, unable to offer even a crumb of constructive comment. Incredibly even for Paisley, he makes a big deal of his suspicion that Mr Trimble actually looked at Mr Adams! Unforgivable.May God help us if the poor old soul represents any more than a mindless rump. Doesn't he yet realise that if we want to see things we haven't seen before, we have to do things we have never done before? To Mr Trimble I say: it might blow up in your face, but you had the courage to give it a shot. - Yours, etc., Adam Harbinson,
Bangor,
Co Down.
