Sir, - As someone who has to crawl through Gorey from time to time, I read with interest your recent article on delay to the Gorey by-pass development caused by farming interests.
While we're waiting for the farmers' payola to be sorted out, where are the garda∅? The complete absence of garda∅ on traffic duty in Gorey has always struck me as odd.
I've seen Garda cars hidden in hedges on either side of the town, presumably waiting to catch some unfortunate drivers trying to make up time lost in Gorey.
I've been stopped at checkpoints outside the town where they've checked road tax, but I've never seen a garda make any intervention to speed up traffic flow through the town.
I'm sure they could achieve a significant reduction in delays if they tried. They would also help reduce drivers' blood pressure. - Yours, etc.,
