Madam, - Ireland has the unenviable distinction of being one of Europe's "hotspots" for crime ( The Irish Times, February 6th). I note that the Garda Commissioner proposes to reduce the overall crime rate by a massive 2 per cent in his 2007 Policing Plan.
As a family which has been held hostage at gunpoint, burgled three times, suffered two muggings and been the victim of a hit-and-run incident, are we likely to experience more of the same? - Yours, etc,
