Sir, - Recently I drove to and from Dublin a number of times on the N11 passing through the Glen of the Downs and Kilmacanogue. I experienced no hold-up in the Glen and drove through the one mile stretch of road at a steady 50 mph. However on approaching Kilmacanogue I experienced a major hold-up which appeared to be caused by the "traffic calming" measures in the village where the road is channelled into a single carriageway on the Dublin side.
In my view, the real culprit of the traffic congestion on the N11 is the village of Kilmacanogue, not the Glen. Putting a dual-carriageway through the Glen of the Downs will not solve the problem. The bypassing of Kilmacanogue should be completed before any further interference in the Glen of the Downs is considered. It appears that Wicklow County Council is putting the cart before the horse. - Yours, etc.,
