Madam, - Noel O'Shaughnessy (March 17th) believes the omission of God from the European constitution to be evidence of "apostasy" and a "return to paganism" by the people of Europe.

It is precisely this kind of religiously inspired rhetoric that reinforces the need for the exclusion of religious references in the aforementioned document. One's religious beliefs are a matter of personal choice, and for an official body to recognise one belief above another is clearly discriminatory.

In other words, I would dearly love Mr O'Shaughnessy to explain to us why he feels that a pagan's beliefs are so much less worthy of acknowledgement than a Christian's. - Yours, etc.,
