Madam, - May I publicly commend Eamon Ryan TD for his fearless article on the corrupt practices of the sea fishing industry?

I have been waiting some time for the Greens to live up to their name and tackle matters other than incinerators and carbon emissions.

Perhaps, now that a little momentum has been achieved, we can look forward to a Green challenge to the assertions of the IFA's Pádraig Walshe on the farmers' custodianship of the natural environment.

Why, for instance, in this land of lakes and rivers, are there great numbers of people living in rural areas who are fearful of drinking tap water?

The beautiful countryside which once was our main tourist attraction has in many areas been closed off. Many of our lakes can no longer be eulogised as trout fisheries due to pollution from phosphates.

I would commend the above matters to the attention of the Greens and remind them that votes for their party need not be confined to urban areas. - Yours, etc,
