Madam, - I take exception to Evelyn Cawley's implication that candidates supported by the Greystones Protection and Development Association enjoyed popular support at the general election (Opinion & Analysis, August 14th). Ms Cawley needs no reminder that she herself polled 3.2 per cent of the vote and was eliminated on the second count.

The Green Party failed to get its high-profile candidate, Deirdre de Burca, elected and the PD candidate polled only a few hundred votes. Liz McManus of the Labour Party had a long, anxious wait to see if she could retain her seat.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, which support the harbour plan, both increased their vote in Greystones and took four of the five seats. May I suggest that Ms Cawley studies the election results again? - Yours, etc,
