Sir, – Either Cathal O’Shannon or Charlie Haughey got it slightly wrong about the origin of the word Gubu (Home News, March 20th). I certainly did not “devise” or write a script for the occasion of the recall of the attorney general. But I did use the words, “grotesque”, “unprecedented”, “bizarre” and “unbelievable” in conversation with CJH.
And as he left for the press conference he asked me to repeat them. Conor Cruise O’Brien brilliantly did the rest. – Yours, etc,
