Madam, - Eileen Battersby wrote a fine article on Irish High Crosses in the Weekend Review (October 27th). As locals in Moone we were especially pleased to see many references to the elegant High Cross here. Alas, on one point she is sadly mistaken - the roof erected to protect the cross is not made of glass, but of flimsy plastic, a sore point in this community. A domed glass roof , badly needed to replace the unsightly, glaring apexed plastic one, has been promised by the Office of Public Works for the last eight years. When can we have our glass crown for this majestic national treasure? - Yours, etc,
