Madam, - The revelation of the high earnings of some gardaí (The Irish Times, May 4th) calls into question the "value for money" principle. What exact contributions to the well-being of our democracy did they make to qualify for such earnings?
Could it be possible that much of this income was derived from routine duties that could equally be done by a reserve force or other body for a fraction of the cost? - Yours, etc,
BRIAN McCAFFREY, Clifton Crescent, Galway.
