Sir, - Today again (May 11th), you report 37 people killed in Algerian violence.
On April 16th, Lara Marlowe wrote that, for the first time, the press inside Algeria had reported the role of government-backed militiamen in the country's atrocities.
On April 25th, you reported Amnesty International's comment on the UN Commission of Human Rights that "during its six-week session, thousands of people were killed or injured in Algeria yet the Commission did nothing. If a blind eye is turned to such blatant and often publicised abuses, what hope can victims not in the international spotlight have?"
When will Amnesty International's call for an international investigation into human rights abuses in Algeria be heeded? How many more deaths will it take for the international community to react? - Yours, etc., C. Gaidoni
