Madam, - Your Editorial "The end of the Castro era"' (February 20th) says there is "little sign that the Cuban public is demanding wholesale change in the regime". Permit me to question such a statement.
The Paris-based media rights organisation Reporters Without Borders has described Cuba's lack of press freedom as "disastrous" and points out that, with less than 2 per cent of its population online, Cuba is "one of the most backward internet countries".
Leaving aside the physical dangers of speaking out against a dicatatorship, it is extremely difficult for anyone to gauge what the Cuban public is demanding, given the lack of press freedom. - Yours, etc,
