Madam, – Having just watched one of the best All-Ireland hurling finals in recent times, it occurred to me how privileged we are to have such a sport in our culture. These players, all of them amateur, were an example to all of us. They played with the sense of pride in their place of origin that is so much missing in our country today.

I was intrigued by the sponsorship name emblazened on the Tipperary shirts. This was “Enfer”, which when translated from French means “hell”. For Killkenny this was surely the case. To both teams thanks for a wonderful game. – Yours, etc,
