Madam, – On this occasion I must congratulate Fintan O’Toole for his clear and unambiguous language and for calling Michael Lowry for what he is (Opinion, April 21st). What we need in Irish journalism is more of this direct language so that people like Mr Lowry are rooted out of politics. – Yours, etc,

Madam, – How refreshing to read Fintan O’Toole’s take on Michael Lowry, the Irish electorate and representatives.

I have been a life-long supporter of Fine Gael and thought the party always courted the “moral high ground”. However, the presence of aspiring Fine Gael European election candidate, Seán Kelly, at the Lowry party has dented my previous very high opinion of the past president of the GAA. Is this what politics does to decent people? Well done Mr O’Toole for telling it like it is. – Yours, etc,
