Madam, - Begrudgers, stand back; see the sun shine through the clouds and witness one of the world's most awe-inspiring pieces of municipal art. Congratulations to all involved. - Yours, etc.,
North Strand,

Madam, - For many decades, Dubliners boarded buses which took them to "the Pillar".
The Pillar marked the centre of the city. Since its demise, buses have been going to a mystical place known as "An Lár", which has been a conceptual space rather than a precise geographical location. Now that the Spire has finally arrived, we once again have the centre of the city clearly marked.
To avoid changing nomenclature again, I propose that we confer the name "An Lár" on the Spire. The buses are already labelled to take us to "An Lár". There would be the added benefit of giving a distinctive name, in our native language, to this eminent monument. - Yours, etc.,
P.CREMIN,
Adare,
Co Limerick.

Madam, - The Spire marks a renaissance for O' Connell Street and most a face-lift in harsh times. The smiles on the faces of people looking up instead of down is the most wonderful effect of all. - Is mise,

Madam, - The newly erect Spire appears shiny, expensive and with, its head in the clouds, a metaphor for our current Government. Spending nearly €5 million to put such a monument in the epicentre of homelessness and drug- ravished areas says much for supposed Irish humanity and values. - Yours, etc.,
DAVID CARROLL,
Whitehall Road,

Madam, - So, just how many steeplejacks will it take to change that light-bulb? - Yours, etc., CONOR McMAHON,
